Christmas Knitting

Merry Christmas time is over, and we’re half way through January already!  And finally I have time to write about it. My mom went through a couple dozen doctor visits before they found a tumor on her back and had to operate. So my December and January has been full of helping Mom, along with celebrating Christmas and the New Year.  She’s doing much better now.

Consequently, some of my knitted gifts were late. I only presented two gifts on time: one to my son, Hunter. When he was young, he warned me NOT to knit him a sweater. “If you do, I will throw it into the trash!” I had lots of folks to knit for so this did not offend me at all. And when he grew up and moved into his first apartment, he asked for and received a knitted, colorful afghan. And then finally in October of 2014, he agreed to let me knit him a sweater. I showed him Erika Knight’s book “Men’s Knits” and asked him to pick one for me. He picked out the Casual Cardigan. Easy! Yay.

He actually wore it all day, often sporting it with sleeves rolled up.

Another gift that I DID give on time were Naomi’s little socks. Each year I have promised her a new pair of socks and a letter, reflecting my thoughts on how she grew through the year.

Here we are together reading a book.

I loved the yarn.  The gorgeous shades of green and tight spin gave for super stitch definition and it felt good on my hands.  It is available at Clover Hill Yarn store.

I made a second project with that yarn.  This one was late.  I enclosed one mitten in a box with the promise of a second one. Happily, I finished it before the 12th day of Christmas.

The wearer and receiver of this gift is my second
daughter, Leah, who gave me the book where one can find this pattern: Fair Isle Style by Mary Jane Mucklestone.

My last knitted gift was a box of 3 purple yarns and a promise to knit a hat for my sister-in-law who has a purple coat.  She is to pick out the purple she likes and I will make her a ribbed hat similar to one Rebecca made for her daughter last year.  However, she decided she is going to buy a new coat, and thus cannot choose the purple yet.

I recently finished a gift to ME!  My oldest daughter, Rebecca gave me a couple balls of Noro to knit an Entrelac pillow. She covered the pillow with a pretty pick cover, and happily left the knitting me. Yay for knitted gifts half finished. It works!
